Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Chocolate Milk Shake

There are two food/drink items that I dearly love in this world. Bourbon & Ice Cream.  So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that on occasion I get a hankering for both of them at the same time. So what’s a guy supposed to do when this happens? Yep, you guessed it. Make a bourbon chocolate shake.

Yep, you guessed it. Make a bourbon chocolate shake. But not just any shake. I made a Woodford Reserve Double Oaked chocolate milkshake. (Oh, hell yeah!)

The photo below is from last week when the mood struck me particularly hard. My thirst was so frenzied that my wife exclaimed that I had finally gone off the deep end. (She even posted that to her friends on Facebook.) Her looks of concern and fear did nothing to prevent me from gathering up the required supplies and diving into a 5-minute dash of mad scientist proportions.

When I finished my alchemy efforts, I was rewarded with a beautiful concoction that made both my bourbon belly and my sweet tooth happy. It was pure bliss in a glass. So thrilled about my accomplishment I posted the above photo and comments on Twitter and Facebook only to find numerous others interested in how I created my masterpiece.

I now share with you the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Chocolate Milk Shake recipe (if you can call it that) that I shared with my friends online, verbatim, if you should care to craft one of these beauties for yourself.

Well, folks, I’m happy to share how I made it but I warn you that it doesn’t really qualify as a “recipe”. Started with about 4 scoops of Breyer’s vanilla ice cream, poured in about 1/2 cup of chocolate milk and then a bunch of Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Mixed it up a bit. Then I added in about 3-4 oz of bourbon and mixed some more. Turns out I shouldn’t have added the milk because it made it too thin. So I added a few ice cubes and crushed to thicken it back up.

It was still a little thin for my liking but it tasted really good. Strong and steady Woodford Double Oaked flavor with a cold and velvety flavor from the ice cream and chocolate. I have to be honest in that if you like bourbon I really don’t think you can screw this one up. Definitely, something I’ll do again. If you decide to make one please share a photo and the results.

Good luck with your mixology! Please let us know what you think if successful.
