Sunny Brook Bourbon Advertisement Circa 1959

Wow! $25,000 reward back in 1959 from Sunny Brook bourbon? Can you imagine if you had been able to track down the missing artwork?

I think it would be pretty cool if a bourbon brand did something similar today. But then again, asking a bunch of bourbon drinkers to go out and hunt something down is probably not the best approach to mounting an investigation.

As soon as I took my first sip of bourbon I’d sit down in my chair and not move for the rest of the day. In fact, I think that’s how I’m going to approach this weekend.

What about you? What are you’re plans for enjoying bourbon this weekend?

Old Taylor Bourbon Advertisement Circa 1959

Today’s vintage bourbon ad comes from Old Taylor Bourbon. In this 1959 print ad we’re asked to “taste why the bubbles dance for joy!” I dedicate this one to all of you highball lovers out there.  Having grown up on the South side of St. Louis, highballs made from Segrams 7 and 7-Up and were considered a right of passage. Perhaps I would have switched to bourbon sooner had we used something like Old Taylor in the mix. I think I’ll mull that over tonight with some Colonel Taylor. Have a great weekend everyone!Old Taylor Bourbon Advertisement Circa 1959

Bellows Club Bourbon Advertisement Circa 1959

I wanna be “hep”. Do you wanna be “hep”? All we need is to serve Bellows Club Bourbon and we’ll not only be hep but we’ll also be a BOURBONITE. Cool.

In 1959, Bellows was a  product of National Distillers, which at the time owned several Kentucky distilleries, in particular Old Taylor, Old Crow and Old Grand-Dad. (per notes found on the BourbonEnthusiast.com) Apparently it wasn’t a bad bourbon but it also wasn’t anything special.

Here’s a few words from a label:

The unvarying excellence of this fine Kentucky Bourbon has made it the favorite of those with the highest standards of quality and good taste. Because of its richness of flavor and mellow goodness, the taste for Bellows Club Bourbon has become almost a family inheritance, generation after generation.

PS – And of coure from here on out we will refer to ourselves as Bourbon & Banter Bourbonites.  (BBB)

Bourbon Makes The Best Holiday Drinks Advertisement

Today’s vintage Bourbon ad comes The Bourbon Institute. This 1959 advertisement shows just how versatile Bourbon can be when it comes to making a wide variety of mixed drinks for the holidays.

What’s your favorite drink recipe from the ones listed in the ad?

I think the only that was new to me was the “Tom and Jerry”. Has anyone ever had one?

Have a great weekend everyone!
