Old Taylor Bourbon Ad Circa 1964

Found this Old Taylor Bourbon ad from 1964 that leveraged the 1964 World’s Fair on New York. It’s a nicely timed ad that  not only claimed it was “…the best America has to offer”, but also that it was “the world’s most popular premium bourbon”. I’d love to see how today’s brands would tackle a world-stage event like this one in America. Would they be willing to come out strong with the American angle, or would they “blend” into the background with a less bold approach?

Let us know what you think of today’s advertising efforts by bourbon brands in the comments. Are they doing all they can to really set themselves a part from the competition? Who has the best advertising right now for a bourbon brand?

Seems like a great banter topic to kick the weekend off right. Cheers!

National Distillers Bourbon Ad Circa 1942

I came across this National Distillers bourbon ad from 1942 and immediately knew it was the perfect ad to post this week. With all of the buzz surrounding Maker’s Mark’s decision to lower the alcohol content of their bourbon, I knew everyone would enjoy the message delivered in this classic wartime advertisement.

For those of you who have emailed me about my opinion on the Maker’s Mark development, please be patient. I’ll post something once I get a little more information and have had a chance to experience the new version. I want to make sure my post isn’t totally based on emotion.

Here’s to a great weekend, no matter what bourbon you decide to put in your glass. Cheers!

Old Taylor Bourbon Advertisement Circa 1978

When I came across today’s featured vintage bourbon ad for Old Taylor Bourbon I immediately knew I had to feature it on the blog. I especially like the use of the shot glass and “Taylor-Made for Texans” slogan. Nice work Old Taylor…nice work!

Here’s to a wonderful weekend filled with as much bourbon as you need to do the job. Whatever that may be. Cheers!

Old Taylor Bourbon Advertisement Circa 1959

Today’s vintage bourbon ad comes from Old Taylor Bourbon. In this 1959 print ad we’re asked to “taste why the bubbles dance for joy!” I dedicate this one to all of you highball lovers out there.  Having grown up on the South side of St. Louis, highballs made from Segrams 7 and 7-Up and were considered a right of passage. Perhaps I would have switched to bourbon sooner had we used something like Old Taylor in the mix. I think I’ll mull that over tonight with some Colonel Taylor. Have a great weekend everyone!Old Taylor Bourbon Advertisement Circa 1959

Old Taylor Bourbon Advertisement Circa 1966

I discovered this Old Taylor Bourbon advertisement in a 1966 copy of Ebony magazine. It’s the first in a series featuring “Ingenious Americans”.  I haven’t see any other ads in the series but I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for them to see if it was continued for any period of time. This is a nice change in pace from a lot of the ads we’ve featured in that it doesn’t focus on the product. Instead they choose to feature Americans who they felt were significant to our growth as a nation. It’s the perfect way to subtlety stress the fact that bourbon is America’s drink.  I’d love to have a conversation with someone that worked on this campaign to see how well it was received by consumers and the company.
