Bourbon Chocolate Chip Cookies: Sweet n’ Tipsy Style

In Food by Chrissy Martin2 Comments

We all search for that perfect chocolate chip cookie, and when we find it we never want to let it go! Today happens to be National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day and what better day to share my ultimate favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Below you will find that one chocolate chip cookie recipe I never wanted to let go. Several years ago there was a cookie recipe posted in the New York Times, sworn to be the best chocolate chip cookie you will ever have. Naturally when you hear that something is the best you have to try it, so I did, and they were not kidding, next to my best friend Christy’s chocolate chip cookies (which she won’t share the recipe) these were the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had. They were simple to make and out of this world delicious!

2017 New Orleans Bourbon Festival Recap

In Events by Chrissy MartinLeave a Comment

Let’s get the obvious reason of why I wanted to go The New Orleans Bourbon Festival, bourbon of course (and lots of it to be exact). 83 different kinds of bourbon were featured at this event from companies like Bulleit, Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam, Makers Mark, Old Forester, Wild Turkey, Heaven Hill, Yellowstone & Woodford Reserve.

Being that I have never have been to New Orleans before, I thought it was an opportunity to check it off my bucket list, but going also fits into my motto “you have bourbon & I will travel.”

I was also excited to see several of my favorite bourbon industry leaders in attendance -Fred B. Noe, Eddie Russell, Trey Zoeller, Michael Veach, Chuck Cowdery, Peggy Noe Stevens, Maggie Kimberl, and Linda Ruffenach, just to name a few, all under one roof! I loved the idea of being able to attend these seminars and hear directly from them all in one place versus attending several different events throughout the year.

Love is in the air and I don’t just mean our love of bourbon, I’m talking about Valentine’s day. So, what are your plans for the big day? What’s the best gift you can give your whisky loving Valentine? I mean, I think the obvious answer here is bourbon. Do you plan to give your sweetheart their favorite bottle (maybe even two or three)? For me, I would take a bottle of bourbon over roses any day!

We are in full swing of the holiday season & my favorite holiday will be coming up this month, Christmas! I love this time of year! The holidays allow for us to take a step back from our every day lives, to reflect & enjoy what is most important, our families, friends & loved ones.

For me & my family cooking is a traditional part of the holidays. We spend the week before Christmas preparing cooking & baking for the Feast of the Seven fishes on Christmas Eve, then another big dinner on Christmas day. Needless to say its a lot of food for two-3 days, but thats just what we enjoy doing, sitting around the table together, catching up eating, drinking, laughing & crying!

Simple, Simple Syrups & Cocktail Recipes

We all feel it; those last few sad moments when you are about to finish that bottle of bourbon or whiskey. It’s always so hard to say goodbye to that delicious water of life! Especially when it could be a bottle that you really enjoy and may not be able to get your hands on for a while.

So what do you do with your empty bottles? Do you trash them, recycle them or re-use them? For me, it will depend on the bottle, some of the bottles for me aren’t worth saving, but a few are. I’ve used many of my old bottles as olive oil bottles, hand soap dispensers and most recently for my simple syrups.

Remember that feeling of going to summer camp as a kid?

Whether you were away a week, two weeks or a month, sleep away camp or daily camp, summer camp was a time for you to meet new friends and have fun.

Flash forward to our long tiring days of adulting, wouldn’t it be great to go to camp again? To have the opportunity to not think about work for a week, meet new people, take part in some fun activities, and of course, drink bourbon.

Bubba’s Honey Sting Wings with CC’s Honey Fire BBQ Sauce

The inspiration for this recipe came from my most recent trip to Kentucky where I attended this year’s Kentucky Bourbon Affair. One of this year’s evening events was a dinner with the Russell’s. What a fantastic evening where I was able to spend time with Jimmy, his wife Joretta and of course their son Eddie. We started the night off with drinks & appetizers on the 127-year-old Young’s High Bridge. Young’s’ a former railroad bridge, is now one of the highest bungee jumping sites and even if there was bungee jumping that evening, I’m not sure if I could have gone through with it.

For the Love of Bourbon

For the people who know me it’s no surprise that I love to entertain! Cooking for my friends and family is something that I really enjoy doing. It must be the little old Italian woman that lives inside of me, but it makes me happy to see people enjoy the food that I have prepared.

Over the last few years, I have branched out when it comes to entertaining. In other words, I’ve expanded my horizons. In 8 years I have lived in 5 different cities, in 3 different regions, each time starting over with jobs & friends, but my 2 constants have been food and bourbon. Now, not everyone enjoys bourbon, but I know that everyone loves food. I like to help bring an understanding between the two for those who are interested in drinking and eating bourbon.

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something……. Bourbon? Yes! We are talking bourbon today and I’m going to show you a twist on two ageless classics, The Old Fashioned & Pork chops. Some would say that bourbon has become my obsession, but let’s just say it’s my passion. So much so that my affection for bourbon has transitioned into the kitchen. I grew up cooking with my Gram and her motto always was “A lil’ dab will do ya.” I’ve incorporated that motto into my cooking, baking & drinking. “A Lil’ Dab of Bourbon” never hurt anyone! I drink my …
