Right up front, I am a big fan of dark roast and typically don’t drink a medium roast. In addition, I am not a huge fan of flavored coffees. At home I brew my coffee with a Techniworm, Mocca Master Drip coffee Maker and use whole beans ground in a Brim Grinder. That is how I tried this Fire Dept Coffee (FDC). While the company suggests using a French Press, I have not found them to work any better than my daily setup. As I said I am not a big fan of flavored coffees, but this coffee was a little different. According to FDC the bourbon is infused into the green coffee beans and then roasted. They also stated that the flavor is also already in the bourbon, so we are talking about a black cherry flavored ‘bourbon” here. The company would not disclose what “bourbon” is used.

Just in time, I’m here to save your Father’s Day gift for you. It’s a subscription box. But wait, before you roll your eyes and delete this, it’s a good one. Unless you’re a vegetarian or vegan terrorist. If that’s the case you can go ahead and delete because your opinion really doesn’t matter anyway.
I know that there’s a lot of subscription boxes and services out there. Some are really bad, some are fair, and some are really worth it if you like the product or theme. The main problem with subscription boxes or “product of the month” clubs is that they can get repetitive. I’ve tried more than a few. Bourbon, cigars, beers, BBQ products, underwear (it was actually a good service), and coffee to name a few. Some I still even currently use.

As is my experience with the Fuente brand in general, this cigar is extremely well made/constructed. The wrapper is really beautiful and has no visible seams or significant veins. As I lit up, the cedar flavor is still very much front and center, but there is a bit of lightly roasted coffee beans and some leather on the palate as well.
As I progressed through the first third of these cigars, I got more earthy flavors, and some more of the leather as the cedar notes faded to the background. The cocoa or even possibly a cinnamon sweetness ramps up in the second third of the smoke as well. The wrapper is delicious. Not overly sweet but extremely enjoyable. If you like to hold a cigar in your teeth and enjoy the flavor that a beautiful wrapper imparts, you won’t be disappointed with this one.
