New Epoch Rye is first Baltimore-produced bottled-in-bond spirit in decades

OCTOBER 29, 2020, BALTIMORE, MD - Baltimore Spirits Company (BSC) today announced to celebrate their fifth year of operation they will be releasing a special edition Bottled-in-Bond version of their flagship, award-winning Epoch Rye Whiskey. The new expression, Epoch Rye Wooden Anniversary Limited Edition, is the first Bottled-in-Bond Maryland rye whiskey to be distilled and aged in Baltimore in at least 50 years.

Bottled-in-Bond is a special designation for spirits that are the product of one distillation season that have been aged for at least four years and bottled at exactly 50% ABV. The product must be made by a single distillery and aged in a federally bonded warehouse under government supervision. Bottled-in-Bond spirits are unique to the United States due to the Bottled-In-Bond Act of 1897, which was passed as a response to a widespread drop in quality of American spirits that also created insurances for tax collection. It has been at least 50 years since any bottled in bond spirit was produced in Baltimore City limits, and possibly since the end of Prohibition.

Epoch Rye Wooden Anniversary is of limited availability, with less than 250 bottles being made available to the public, and will be sold in commemorative Wooden Anniversary branded boxes - as wood is the traditional gift for a five-year anniversary - along with thank-you cards signed by each of the company founders. Baltimore Spirits Company co-founder and CEO Max Lents describes it as a more developed and fully mature version of Epoch Rye Whiskey with notes of candy cherry, spearmint, and caramel with an extra silky finish.

“This bottling is both a celebration of the past five years as well as a glimpse into our future,” said Lents. “It's our oldest barrel of Epoch in the warehouse, and it will be a long time before we're able to do this again.”

Epoch Rye Wooden Anniversary Limited Edition is available for pre-order now and will be officially available for purchase at Baltimore Spirit Company’s tasting room in the Union Collective on November 7th for $99.99. For more information or to place a pre-order visit baltimorespiritsco.com.
