As many of you know, last year we held our first ever Bourbon & Banter Pilgrimage to the Bourbon Trail. The trip was a huge success and coming out of the trip I was dead set on doing it again this October. I began the planning process back in April and had some great ideas on to improve the trip this year and accommodate more people. We were even looking at doing a barrel selection as part of our trip. I have to admit that my target agenda was looking pretty good. But as with the best laid plans reality decided to rear its ugly head and put me in my place.
It turns out that the “little growth spurt” the bourbon industry is experiencing has resulted in distilleries being swamped with tours, events and on the road activities. Guess what month is shaping up to be the busiest? Yep, October.
What a difference a year makes. Last year it was relatively easy to work with everyone to get our tour schedule locked in for promotion. Not so this year. Folks simply don’t have the capacity or resources to host our style of tour in October, despite their desire to work with us. I guess there’s a reason people always say “be careful for what you wish for.” In this case, bourbon is the hottest spirit on the market but as a result we can’t get our trip put together.
So what does that mean for those of you who were interested in hearing about this year’s Pilgrimage? It means you’ll need to wait a bit longer. We’re not giving up on the idea of another Pilgrimage but we are postponing it for the rest of 2013. We’ve had some initial discussions with the distilleries we want to include on the trip and it looks like late March might be a good time to hold it in 2014. We’ll keep you posted as things start getting pulled together. Until then please enjoy the video below compiled by Josh over at Mint Julep Tours. Mint Julep Tours provided the bus service for our group and we agreed to be video guinea pigs for Josh. Luckily for us he decided not to shoot video of us after we exceed our daily bourbon quota. You can also learn more about last year’s trip using the links that follow the video.
If there’s something you’d love to see be a part of the 2014 Bourbon & Banter Pilgrimage let us know in the comments section of this post. We’ll check them out and see what we can do. And don’t forget to sign-up for our mailing list so you’re one of the first to know about the 2013 trip details.
