The 1950′s are often remembered as a magical and idyllic time in our nation’s history. And who am I to argue now that I’ve learned that bourbon tooth paste (with real alcohol) was created and marketed in the 50′s.
According to a piece over on MentalFloss.com, the tooth paste was invented in 1954 by Don Poynter. (Don’s other claim to fame was the creation of crossword-puzzle toilet tissue.) Apparently a nice spread in Life magazine helped propel his tooth paste to become a huge seller – albeit for a short period of time.
Perhaps if he had increased it’s potency up from “six proof” it would have been even more successful.
