Aberfeldy Celebrates 125 Years of Scotch Distilling

To commemorate the milestone, ABERFELDY is releasing a 25 year old single malt Scotch whisky finished in first-fill Oloroso Sherry casks

ABERFELDY®, a Highland single malt, has bottled a limited edition 25-Year-Old expression in an exclusive collector’s pack to mark 125 years of whisky making at its eponymous distillery.

Since 1898, ABERFELDY has been quietly crafting excellence in taste and quality in the heart of Scotland, where Perthshire's tallest mountain, deepest loch, and longest glen meet. The distillery was founded by John Alexander Dewar, whose work led him to become one of the first so-called ‘Whisky Barons’, a group of pioneers who laid down the cornerstone of the Scotch whisky world as we know it today.

Sparing no expense in the creation of the distillery, it was designed by legendary distillery architect, Charles Doig, made use of “all the latest advancements” and was planned down to the smallest detail to produce a superior Highland malt. With its smoother, rich character, Aberfeldy helped bring the Highland style into the 20th century.

125 years later, ABERFELDY single malt pays homage to its rich past by continuing to create exceptional malt whisky, representing the distillery’s gold standard approach to whisky making.  Today, the distillery goes to great lengths to care for the surrounding area to build a more sustainable future, from reducing its carbon footprint by 90% since 2015 by installing a biomass boiler, to improving water efficiency by more than 30% in the last 15 years.

Five-time International Whisky Competition 'Master Blender of the Year' and ABERFELDY Malt Master, Stephanie Macleod commented: “The walls of our charming distillery are steeped in history and heritage, standing testament to a tradition of whisky making stretching back over generations. Together with the distillery team led by Distillery Manager, John MacKenzie, and the team of talented Blenders, we have the honor of balancing past, present and future in every bottle of Aberfeldy to create the consistent premium quality and taste people enjoy around the world. Aberfeldy is truly at the heart of Scotland and, as soon as you arrive, it’s easy to see why John Alexander Dewar chose this area to build his first and only distillery.”

The distillery was the first and only distillery built by John Alexander Dewar and is located just a few miles from where his father – John Dewar Senior – was born, starting from humble beginnings before founding the family business that John Alexander took over.

Jacqui Seargeant, Heritage Manager, Bacardi commented: “John Alexander was at the peak of his whisky-making career when he founded the distillery and he would have had his choice of some of the best locations in the Highlands. Out of all of those, he chose Aberfeldy, a location that had all the ingredients to make a superior Highland single malt, notably a superior natural water source through the gold-rich Pitilie Burn, which runs right past the distillery. And there was likely a sentimental reason too, a homecoming of sorts, being just three miles from where his father was born and the family’s whisky legacy began.”

The stunning bottling is available worldwide in a special edition collector’s pack for $549.99 USD, starting this November.  The expression is available via https://www.aberfeldy.com/us/en/shop/, on ReserveBar.com and at fine retail stores across the United States.
