Bottled at its original 125 barrel entry proof, just as it was years ago when the barrels were first filled, 1792 Full Proof Bourbon is exceptionally distinct. Barton 1792 Distillery

  • DISTILLER: Barton 1792 Distillery, Sazerac Company, Bardstown, KY
  • MASH BILL: 75 % Corn  |  10% Rye  |  15 % Barley; Sazerac would not reveal the mash bill but did say it is the same as the 1792 Small Batch
  • AGE: No Age Statement but the press release stated 8.5 years
  • YEAR: 2016
  • PROOF: 125 (62.5% ABV)
  • MSRP: $44.95
  • BUY ONLINE: Wine-Searcher.com
NOSE: Alcohol  |  Oak  |  Vanilla Cookies  |  Orange

TASTE: Alcohol  |  Hints of Vanilla Cream  |  Oak

FINISH: There was nothing remarkable about the finish. A short alcohol burn on the tongue and then pretty much nothing. Every now again there would be a creamy feeling on the tongue. A few drops of water did allow a little more vanilla to show up but not much.

SHARE WITH: I would share this with experienced bourbon drinkers who like higher proof bourbon and want to taste this one.

WORTH THE PRICE: The MSRP is $44.99. In the current market, it is not a bad price for a limited edition bourbon, but there are better products out there in my humble opinion.

BOTTLE, BAR OR BUST: My suggestion would be to try this at a bar first and if you like it then look for a bottle.

OVERALL: This has been out for a while, but I found one on the shelf in Virginia. I was disappointed in this bottling of 1792. I have had bottles of the Small Batch and Sweet Wheat and tasted the Single Barrel and Port Finish. I bought my bottle because of my experience with other 1792 expressions. This does not come close to any of those. It just doesn’t have a lot of taste. I would not buy another bottle of this one.

Lee Stang

Lee’s bourbon journey started with one mistaken gulp of bourbon and coke as an eight-year-old. While bourbon was always part of his life, Lee followed a beer, wine path for the most part until a bartender poured him a taste of Buffalo Trace about ten years ago. It was at that point Lee’s love of bourbon really took off. Not only does Lee enjoy a good pour of bourbon but he is more than willing and excited to talk about it. Lee believes that bourbon, and for that matter all spirits, is enhanced by the experience of good company, good conversation and good bars. The combination leads to great stories. Say hi to him when you see him. Lee lives in Leesburg, VA, with his wife, best friend, and drinking partner, Patti. You might find her having a bourbon as well. Both Lee and Patti like to read mystery thrillers and travel. Most likely the travel leads to visits to new bars.

I find this to be one of my favorites. At first it seemed quite hot, yet after opening up I found it flavor packed. Compared to 1792 Small batch this is packed with character… definitely worth the bottle
