Northcross Triple Wood Irish Whiskey Review

Rich on the nose, this whiskey has aromas of graham cracker and honey. Once sipped, the sweetness of the malt is immediately present with flavors of chocolate syrup and beignets, before giving way to the tastes of creamy butterscotch and lively orange zest.

SHARE WITH: Any whiskey fan, especially those wading into Irish whiskey.

WORTH THE PRICE: Absolutely.

BOTTLE, BAR OR BUST: Bottle.

OVERALL: There’s hardly an easier way to introduce someone to Irish whiskey than with this easy sipper. This blend of whiskeys aged in bourbon, sherry and American oak barrels is soft on the nose and the palate, making it highly approachable sipped neat.

But such easy approachability also makes it unremarkable, and at $24.99 per bottle, whaddya expect, right? The finish is non-existent, and there’s no discernible aftertaste. To detect any real nuance—graham cracker, malt, sweetened-condensed milk and some faint orange peel show up—requires holding it in the mouth for a few seconds while breathing through your nose. Boldness isn’t its strong suit, but that’s likely by design and totally OK. Consider it Irish whiskey with training wheels.

BRAND NOTES

PURE IRISH FLAVOR

Our Triple Wood expression is made from a blend of whiskies, distilled in copper stills and matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon barrels, Oloroso Sherry casks and virgin American oak.

Rich on the nose, this whiskey has aromas of graham cracker and honey. Once sipped, the sweetness of the malt is immediately present with flavors of chocolate syrup and beignets, before giving way to the tastes of creamy butterscotch and lively orange zest. The finish is long and showcases the influence of the sherry maturation with notes of marzipan and dried cherries.
