A.D. Laws Bottled in Bond Secale Straight Rye Whiskey Review

The finish starts sweet, with a nice mix of orange peel and honey but quickly turns a bit hot with rye spices. It feels a little off balance, erring on the hot and spicy side instead of mixing the sweet and spicy as my taste buds were anticipating.

I love the nose on this whiskey. The cream sherry cask finish works well and creates the illusion of a much older and more complex whiskey. It masks the green oak notes that typically accompany such a young whiskey and imparts a creamy mouthfeel.

Son Of Bourye Review

Some fellow bloggers told me to pull the trigger on this purchase while in KY and I am glad I did. There are not many bourbon-rye mixes out there to compare this to, so it is actually a unique product. Only a handful of other products come to mind that have done the same thing (Wild Turkey Forgiven,

Tap 357 Canadian Maple Rye Whisky Review

For a flavored whisky, TAP 357 Maple Rye Whisky is very much as expected and not bad (yes, I have tried several flavored whiskies). To their credit TAP 357 is as advertised, a decent rye whisky flavored with maple syrup.

Ezra Brooks Rye Whiskey Review

A simple yet tasty whiskey. It’s one of the lightest whiskeys we’ve tried this year, but its fruit overtones make it interesting enough to finish a glass without any hesitation. However, its lack of depth will keep it from my regular rotation of whiskeys that I enjoy drinking neat.

Whiskey Acres Rye Review

Even though this is a younger product, it’s a solid rye option. It stands up well on its own, and I would imagine that it would go great in a cocktail. The mint adds a unique layer to it, and I’m looking forward to trying it in a Mint Julep or Kentucky Mule.

Willett Family Estate Single Barrel Rye 4 Year Review

In all honesty, I chose this bottle for my review submission to be a bit contrarian. I’ve had this bottle on my bar for a while and when I first cracked it I was not a fan of it at all.

Willett Exploratory Cask Finish Review

The Willett brand, owned by Kentucky Bourbon Distillers Limited, has taken a 7-year-old rye and finished it for 90 days in French Curacao casks. If you’re unfamiliar, curacao is a liqueur made with the laraha citrus fruit grown on the island of Curacao.

WhistlePig Boss Hog Review

With the rye whiskey renaissance, it was only a matter of time before someone decided that ryes needed something that would make a statement as big and bold as any old, high-proof bourbon. Turns out that someone is WhistlePig. WhistlePig is a rye whiskey company.

A Midwinter Nights Dram Review

What to drink on a blizzardy night here in North Carolina? So much to choose from but one bottle stands out as appropriate–High West’s “A Midwinter Nights Dram®.” Being originally from Kentucky I begrudgingly admit liking High West products.

Few Spirits Rye Whiskey Review

This is a really fresh and grassy rye that leads into a peppery, ginger burn that lingers on the lips. Flavors of plum and vanilla come out with the burn. There are hints of sweetness but it only tempers the spice and never overcomes it.
